So yeah, ACen went quite well. Our skits won, which is pretty cool. More importantly, however, was that it was *fun* to put on the skits. It was a very organic creation process with lots of input from everyone, we rocked from the first practice, diligent costume work made the con not-very-stressful, and the adrenaline of carrying it off perfectly felt really good. Lots of screaming happened when we realized that we won not only first place, but also runner-up.
Amusing anecdotes will be written up, but first, your standard Sushu-life documentation:
Thursday: we had official dress rehearsal from 6-8:30pm. Then I went to the library and printed out organizational charts, contact sheets, etc. Got home at 10:30, threw things into suitcase, headed out at 11:30, got to Aza's at 1:15am, with the help of a nice cabbie who gave me a free ride around the block. Slept at 2:30
Friday: got up at 7:15. Due to traffic, got there at 8:50. Hotel checked in, 37 badges and bags retrieved, skit checked in, and rooms examined by 10:30. People started arriving ~ 11:30. 2 badges dropped in elevator ~5:30, retrieved ~6:15pm. Bar arrived 7pm. Caught some Artist Alley action and a Super Robots panel. Spent evening fiddling with costume and eating Jono's okonomiyaki. Bedtime: 1:30am.
Saturday: got up at 8:30. Cat N made nummy pancakes and bacon! Got 10 people + bar to skit review place 10 minutes early! But Kat was still in Hyde Park. Sat around and chilled until her arrival at 11:20. Skit approved with much love. Lunch of onigiri and more okonomiyaki, then dispersal until 4:00 (walked around with Maromi-Cat). Then it was suiting up, quick run-through, last minute painting of props, and down to the Masq Green Room by 5:30. Masquerade until 9pm, then spent nice time upstairs just talking with peeps. Then Aza, Cat and I went to Soap Bubble and danced with Kat and Alex until 2am, while Jeremy, Jim, and Vincent played a Burger Mission game. Ah, happy geekdom.
Sunday: got up at 9:30, woke everyone else up at 10am, and got room cleaned up and checked out by noon with minimal spazziness! Many thanks to the awesomeness of UCJAS people. <3. Then walked around Dealer's room a bit more, then it was Mitsuwa lunch from 2-3:30, Jono's place from 4:30-5:15pm, dropping me back at the Reynold's Club just in time for me to hop on a bus to a Chinese Kunqu opera (mandatory for class. Funny), which dropped me back on campus at 10pm.
Have been zombifying and internetting since then, but now it's time to do some Japanese homework, then sleep.
Amusing stuff tomorrow! I promise! ... Okay, maybe more like Tuesday, depending on tomorrow's schedule.
