"just because you like reading a particular form of fiction doesn't mean that that's what you'll be best at writing."
That's so true.
I have problems reading comics and putting the words and the pictures in proper balance. But I think in a combination of words and pictures.
I can write proper Art History BS if given a topic, but I can never come up with a proper topic of my own. I come up with all these topics in History, but have trouble writing the proper BS.
I dislike reading long extended details, I like reading about plot, but I suck at making up plot.
I like making lists.
Is it a bad thing when I see Chinese and find myself thinking in Chinese and voicing in Japanese? :X
I can't believe it's only a Monday. Busy weekend! Well, as is natural for a first weekend back. Friday afternoon was hotpot with Kim, evening was Dixie Kitchen with Joanne and Jesse, followed by watching Hitchhiker's Guide + some French Film while drawing a page of CGU.
Saturday was updating the SMAC website while watching LA Confidential, followed by dinner with the Anime-kai folks, wherein we watched Ginrei Special (I remembered how great a show Giant Robo was) and Hot Shot Part Deux (while I drew nudie chicks for CGU). We also met the mysterious Cat N of Jono-gf fame! V. Cool. There was also some hitting on of instruments. And pretending to be a duck.
Sunday was making lunch and then working on the add-on of CGU and mad scanning and uploading, followed by dinner at the Med and chalking on campus and various levels of sitting at the library and doing homework. Sorta.
So yeah, stayed up late, slept in till 11am every day, but also did stuff. Which has made me completely pooped out for the week. :X
But yes, CGU is finally updated, albeit with a few errors. And we've launched a Forum, where you can point out said errors. In any case, I'm very glad that this scene is over. It was made doubly hard by the image-word relationship. The text is supposed to describe stuff in the image. And look pretty. But when text is written by one person and the image is drawn by another, it became something like this:
1) Isaac's Mental Image
2) Words describing select elements of Isaac Mental Image
3) Sushu's Mental Image from reading Isaac Text
4) Sushu's RL Image from Mental Image. Which doesn't work aesthetically.
I guess the hard part when text and image is so integrated is trying to approximate the original Mental Image.
