Ah, CTA. They just sent me an email telling me that they will be raising fares once again this coming January. They directed me to a pdf wherein, buried on page 18, lies the specifics of their fare change.

For the good of mankind, I reproduce it here:

Revenue from fares and passes is projected at $426.5 million in 2006. This represents a growth of 4.8 percent over the 2005 budget. The growth in fare and pass revenues is tied to increased ridership, along with the implementation of the proposed cash and rail transit card fare increase from $1.75 to $2.00. Additionally, under the President’s proposal customers paying with cash will no longer be able to purchase a transfer. Transfers will remain available to Chicago Card and transit card customers.

The proposed cash and rail transit card fare adjustment will help the CTA offset recent increases in fuel prices and will have minimal impact on most daily customers who already pay for fares with passes, transit cards or Chicago Card products. It will also improve operational efficiency through increased customer migration to automated fare media. Automated fare media, particularly Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus, make transit more convenient for CTA customers through quicker boarding which results in faster trips. Unlike automated fare media, cash has a high processing cost and is an extremely labor-intensive operation. Consequently, as more customers transition from cash, the CTA will be able to further reduce its operating
costs.
Full Fares Current Recommended For FY 2006 Percent Change
Cash $1.75 $2.00 14.3%
Full Fare Transit Card - Bus $1.75 $1.75 Unchanged
Full Fare Transit Card - Rail $1.75 $2.00 14.3%
Full Fare Chicago Card $1.75 $1.75 Unchanged
Chicago Card Bonus * 10% 10% Unchanged
Transfer2 $0.25 $0.25 Unchanged

* Instead of $1 for every $10, it will be $2 for every $20

But yes, way to go, favor the people with bank accounts who can get Chicago Cards. And make it very hard to find out about it. >_< Good news is, the Chicago Card will be free from Jan 1 - Mar 31.

In other news, I went into the Reg second floor stacks bathroom today, and someone was in my stall, and I got really jealous. A funny thing habit is, engendering feelings of possessiveness. Wonder what marks would say about this "use-power". Are we allowed to feel alienation from our use? :D Along with my "dude wtf you're in my stall!", I also felt a compulsion of striking up a conversation, such as "hey, 'sup? (how's my stall?)". Good thing I refrained, for she wore old-woman shoes. ^^;;

Really, I'm not that possessive about my stall. Other people can use it. But I want it to be available when I'm there.

I get possessive about computer terminals, too.

Hmm... am I that way with relationships? "I don't care if you sleep with other people, as long as I come first when I'm around"? Or am I of the "meeeh! You must love meeee!!" type? baaah

Hee, I'm watching Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Juliet's quite cute. And I really like how the Mercutio/Tybalt thing was done.

*sigh* Why can't public transit be better funded? This makes me glad I hung onto my Chicago Card.

I also feel posessive about bathroom stalls and computer terminals, especially in the mac lab, since they have names there- "Someone else is using Cecil?!"

Because no one likes taking public transportation. Everyone would prefer to get exactly where they are going exactly when they want to be there; the paradox of course being if everybody wants that, nobody can get it (bad traffic), nor can public transit be a viable alternative (cause not enough people take it to make it economical!) I guess the breaking point is when the streets are SO AWFUL that no one can stand to drive: Manhattan, ALL OF JAPAN. In fact China is probably like this too; is this true Ms China? (haha am I talking to Alexis or Sushu? hahahahahhaha)

Also "No one can serve two masters blahlbabla"

That's true except for places like Portland, where the traffic is pretty good and lots of people take the public transit anyway. People in most places except mass transit to be a business and make money, or at least not lose it, instead of being a service.

The streets of China are indeed crazy, but public transit in China is also a necessity because most people can't afford cars. Though I have seen a family of four all crammed on the same electric bicycle, so I guess the metro and buses aren't completely necessary.

Wow. You are possessive!

Well, it's still cheaper than here...but then again, it sucks compared to here too.. hehe

You've never seen Romeo + Juliet before? Wow! Good thing you remedied that - I love that movie. But then again you know I'm a sucker for that kind of movie..
