ergg. I don't get it. Why do they have to make the OAVs so angsty? I mean, the Memories Arc is supposed to be angsty, and I'm excited about the flashbacks in the Remembrances Arc, but then ... why does Meiji 28 have to be so angsty? ::cries::

I don't get it either. I thought Meiji 28 would be all genki with Kenshin and Kaoru strolling to the marketplace to get tofu, having NORMAL issues of raising a teenage son, lots of oros, and all that other happiness that K & K freakin deserve after so much angst throughout the series. ::sniff::

Actually, I really like Rich's comment on the SASSE list --> he acknowledges that the future for Kenshin isn't happy, but it was nicer when we didn't know it wasn't happy. Better to stay with the cheerful note that Watsuki ended on.

And as for why Kenshin's future is unhappy: Meiji 28 is the beginning of the Sino-Japanese war (the one that the US (Teddy) negotiated a peace between Russia and Japan and got on both countries' bad side), so with Japan rapidly imperializing, Kenshin is basically seeing all the things he had fought to protect go down the drain. (as well as Okubo's "Nation State")
