Computer Status Update
Okay, so in the middle of something or other yesterday, my computer decided to RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN again, and for a while it refused to recognize an interweb connection. And right now the touchpad is completely spazzing out. Went to the Office Depot and saw that theirs was not a 4540gz, but a 4012gz, which is less cool. I think I'm going to go with the Gateway 4540gz, which is currently $1099 at Best Buy. Which means I should go to North/Clybourn and check it out physically. I'm mostly concerned about whether the touchpad is tappable, which the 4012 doesn't seem to be, which is WEIRD. But yes, the Gateway seems the best deal, especially since it comes with a DVD+-RW, but on the other hand, Alexis warns that it is, after all, a Gateway, which may not be very reliable on the long run. But I think I'm going to go for it and treat it with care (like not running BT for over 5 hours). If I can possibly get it with 1gb ram instead of 512mb, that'd be best. Planning to have the new lappy last another 3+ years... ::crosses fingers::
Anyways, that'll probably happen after I get my next 2 papers turned in, so either Monday or Tuesday. Right now, I'll just remember to save early, save often.

This is not the laptop you are looking for.
You want one of these (http://www.apple.com/ibook/).

Concerns:
1) LAN Compatibility: Alexis and Cat both have PCs, my entire family have PCs. Compatibility of hooking up to a LAN to transfer files between everyone?
2) Program Compatibility: OpenCanvas and other freeware harder to find for Mac, I think.

Program compatibility is a bigger thing. This site (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/) has a couple downloads available for mac, so you could try searching there for freeware/shareware. In some respects, I pro'ly do less stuff with my computer, so I don't see any need for windows. (My only uses are web surfing, email, programming, and word processing, really.) In fact, my shuttle is only used for playing movies and music, even though it has a zippy processor and lots of RAM.
The biggest thing is the price difference, IMHO. $1100 vs $1500, that extra $400 can buy you a lot of software and/or food.
Also, seriously, bittorrent should not hurt a computer. If your computer dies on you after a couple years of using bittorrent, your manufacturer used crappy parts, IMNSHO.
Oh, and I'm eating the spicy green beans, and they were such a good idea!
