AAA says we can get there in 32.5 hours, my dad says 27.

It is 2106 miles from San Francisco to Chicago.  Driving an average of 70mph, it would take 30 hours.  Highway 80 passes through Reno, Salt Lake City, Cheyenne, Lincoln, and Des Moines (a bunch of state capitals in the middle of nowhere?).  Another option is heading out from Salt Lake City on highway 40, passing the Dinosaur National Monument, threading through the mountain, passing hot sulphur springs, and landing in Denver, then taking highway 70 to St. Louis and working our way up from there.  Note to self, find an "weird stuff in America" book.

Utah: Biggest Pit, biggest watermelon, Rock Shop, and Vernal the dinosaur town
Colorado: Bishop Castle, live hangings, vagrant donkeys, petrified gas station...
Kansas: Giant Van Gogh easel, giant well, the yellow brick road, giant pancake houses, transparent women, world's largest twine ball...
Missouri: Hair Museum, another Giant Ball of Twine (or rather, plastic string), white squirrels, caves, shoes of shoes, stonehenge...
Illinois, giant ketchup, giants, muffler men, Metropolis...
