well, that took a long time. I woke up late today, at 11am, so I didn't get all the stuff done that I should have. Oops. I still went to Calligraphy meeting, and then ran back to try this D&D thing. Made wontons, had dinner with the folk, finished the game/quest thing. I guess it's like playing an rpg video game. Except you actually interact with real people, and hand-eye coordination isn't required. It's interesting to see other people get into character, though. (Although I was not very good at it, it was very cool to see others let out their inner-thespian). Partly, too, is that it's 2 elves, a dwarf, a half-orc, and a half-elf, so I, being the dwarf, dislikes basically everyone. Plus my character has very little incentive for adventuring. But I guess I'll bond. It was pretty fun pre-getting into the tower, but once we were in there, it was a bunch of mazes and monsters, which were of course cool, but also rather like playing an rpg video games at times, minus the pretty graphics but plus fun people. (Basically, some times things get repetitive, other times you just have to go against your better senses. "If everyone walks in, the door is gonna slam shut and the lights go off, right?" "Just walk in and accept your fate") It's a strange mix of practicality (you can only carry so much, and you die rather quickly), but also quite capricious at times, what with the dice rolling and such. But yes, conclusion is that it's pretty cool, but should be confined to limited sporadic doses with fun people, especially given the other stuff I'm doing, I don't have 7 hours to blow every weekend. (Although I do admit to blowing quite a lot more in the internet.) I'd also need some busywork on my hands. Today it was making wontons. Maybe I should find a yarn store somewhere and learn to knit things.
So I didn't end up making shumai today, mostly b/c I needed time to stir-fry the filling. That will be done. Maybe tomorrow night?
Since NSP work may dictate that I eat some foods on the run (Mon & Fri), I'm also eager to try out the yeast and make some quick baozi. Does anyone have any good bread recipes?
Using BitTorrent again to d/l some Condor Hero. If it's good, will show for Officer's Choice. Otherwise, I have some Wolf's Rain and Rose of Versailles. Painfully slow. 8 kb/s.
Trying very hard to fight off the Calligraphy Club president nomination. I guess I somehow, despite all my flailing and crashing into poles and speech difficulties*, present an illusion of together-ness and organizational ability? eep! It's so weird at times, b/c I don't like direct responsibility/power b/c I know I don't have what it takes to fully handle it. On the other hand, I function... bossily. I like to arrange things and have my hand in everything. But I need someone higher to veto me down b/c most of my ideas are dreadfully stupid. Maybe what I need is a co-chair.
Speaking of stupid ideas, I might as well put down some ideas for anime club...
1) Social Events, like picnics in the spring, marathons, mitsuwa trips, karaoke trips, maybe an anime swap? Or maki making sessions? A designated person to come up with these things would be nice. An events chair. (I personally would like to draw non-naked-people with other people, but I guess that's not anime related)
2) Open screenings to older/popular stuff. After all, not everyone has Cartoon Network, and there are many good shows classic enough to be watched again within the current 4-year limit. This can be a slot that's up for public nomination.
3) have a post-watching discussion time, either with a discussion board or just talking. But this doesn't work unless the club bonds first.
4) have sporadic movie screenings and things with lower time commitment.
5) after Officer's Choice is done, maybe we can try "Club's choice"... and threaten to show dubbed FY unless they bring something.

I'd also like to say here, that M-W has some pretty intense word games. Match-maker tests random knowledge like women artists and Russian authors, I don't recognize about 4 of Flip-Flop's words, and the word transform things are utter headaches.
