That dwarf character for tomorrow.

The exchange went as follows:

cadrach & kitsuchan: hey, wanna D&D?
Sushu: you mean be an old skool geek? Sure, I've never tried it.
c&k: cools, we'll tell you if we get anything together.
-- 1 month later --
c&k: how does Friday sound?
Sushu: sure!
c&k: okay, you need a character. And make up a story of why s/he is in a village.
Sushu: .... I'll see what I can come up with while attending the potty.

The result:

One day the village people woke up to see smoke billowing out of the long-abandoned smithy at the edge of town. The villagers were glad they now no longer had to travel a day and a half to get a stupid plow fixed or a horse shoed. Though the new blacksmith was gruff, always stayed behind the anvil and demanded to be left alone to do his work, he did good work and charged a reasonable price, so they didn't complain too much. There is, however, a story circulating among the nosy children that the full-bearded man is actually a dwarf on the run, but children have such fanciful minds.

Most know dwarves to be master miners, smiths, and above all, haters of elves. Of course, the elf-hating thing is utter pyrite. Well, at least it's very low on the dwarven scale of importance. Community is the most important, followed by honor, then the individual. Maybe that's why we don't like elves. They're too blastedly different from us. Different values and all that. They're always flitting about worried about personal growth and perfecting themselves. I'm not saying elves are bad, 'cause they're pretty capable and all that. It's just that I don't understand them and occasionally I get the urge to chop their legs off. As a dwarf, though, the urge to chop is natural. About as natural as our love for the community, in fact. You think those great Dwarven halls could be built if everyone spent their time decorating their room? The first and foremost thought on everyone's mind is how to benefit the house, the clan. Of course, one of the most important aspects is to maintain the honor of the house and to properly display its power and wealth through unparalleled hospitality and architecture on a grand scale. People think we're greedy for gems, but we're not greedy for our own sake, but for the clan. Except for my husband. When I married him at 34, Gabur was still a pleasant Dwarf and a good husband, just like my mother predicted -- I think he was her nephew 4th removed. (We dwarves are all related to one another in one way or another.) Some were surprised that such a master crafter as he would marry a mediocre guard, but it did no harm to the house so no one complained. I don't know what changed him, but the king had ordered an elaborate crown to be made with the best gems from the mines. It took Gabor about five years, but he did complete it and the king was pleased. Such honor for the house! For the clan! Oh Gabor! I'd drunk overmuch that night, so I had a massive hangover when he woke me as he was trying to hide the king's crown in the baby's pillow. Even now I don't know what came over him to steal the crown and refuse to give it back when the guards came. Nor do I know what came over me when he was beheaded with a swift swing of the regulation axe. As a guard I should have retrieved the crown for them but instead I grabbed the pillow and ran out. It wasn't until I was about a league from the cave that I realized what I'd done, and by then it was too late. I'd put Gabor before the clan and Gabor put this crown before the clan. The result is elimination of unuseful members. We dwarfs, we make sure community comes first. God, I hope I'm not turning into an elf.

but the real question is do you have a beard? ^_^

Of _course_. One could hardly call oneself a dwarf otherwise.

I've never really though of Sushu as gruff and bearded on the inside, but maybe she's playing against type...or...hmm, now that I think of it...

Wai! This will be quite a fun game... I haven't played with a dwarf in ages. Plus, I like your character's background.
