ack! manga! comic! anime!

It's weird how I haven't seen anime/manga for so long, I'm once again startled by the large cutesy eyes. But hey, I finally drew someone with anime hair and chin today in Comp Sci.... (scary... that was the second today... after the doodle on my math homework...)

Today Gregorio was dissing manga again. geh. well, I agree that there are some stories that are quite pointless, but there's a lot of good stuff, too. American comics appear to me to being more... traditional. I mean, there's writers, pencilers, inkers, letterers, colorists, etc; while in manga it's more like the mangaka and a few assistants. Manga layout is also more... free? I dunno.... I don't read enough of either to make an educated, well-founded statement in these regards. While comics have full color pages most of the time, manga has tones and other cool stuff.

been trying to draw sequential art. Very hard. can't think in frames. I picture people getting up from a chair, you know, lean forward, shift weight, butt rises, straighten legs... but how should I express that in art frames? I need to study some comics...

Manga artists do tend to be more creative with their panels which is really amazing since a lot of times when I start framing away I keep thinking "box box box" and "how can I make this not box box box".

I think American comics are used to the boxy approach with the Sunday newspaper comics and such being what they grew up on.

Sequential art is hard, even after you've drawn 100+ pages. I still have to go back and 'read' everything I just drew just to make sure it flows okay. O_o
