Okay, it's done. We've said goodbye to Stanford forever. No more Friday night table dragging, early Saturday morning noodles. We've switched the small desk bell for the big dinner bell that goes dong- dong- dong- instead of dingdingding. Turned off all the lights for the last time, took out the doorstopper-stone that was kept behind the vcr, and made sure the doors were locked.
Next week Chinese School will be at a totally different place, at a totally different time. A sort of starting anew....
Anyway, enough sappiness. After dinner Dad decided to sit down and confer more of Life's Wisdoms onto me. My parents have been doing that a lot recently. Maybe because they're finally realizing that for good or naught, I'm gonna be gone this time next year, and the instability of Silicon Valley and the fates of many aquaintances have made them realize the transience of human life and how old they are. I understand what they're telling me, but I feel a need to actually experience these things for myself before really following their advice. I guess Mom's right in a way -- parents always want their children to take the safest, most protected past, but that may not be the best path. It's the child's responsibility to choose between the safe one and following their own uncertain dreams.
