public announcement-ish
woo! I am back online! ::flexes fingers::
finally, I've been able to check all my email, catch up with LJ-reading, and chat with people. ::contented sigh::
In case people haven't figured it out yet, internet = very very difficult at home.
1) dial-up
2) home phone is also Stanford Chinese School phone, so 8am-10pm is reserved for phone calls, not internet. (believe me, I've tried getting up early)
3) no phone jack in my room, so have to be on battery time while online
4) my fault, but I've been experimenting with php (just minor, non-db stuff), which requires me to take advantage of every minute online to upload and debug.
Well, watched 3 hours of Alias Season 1 on Friday, which was fun.
Saturday was hiking along a fault (nice hike, fault line not really all that exciting) with Jess and Nicole (yay!). The drive up and down was pleasant (except poor Jess who had to do all the hour-long squigglies). Then we had a potluck lunch with the rest of the gumi (Karen!!! missed you!!), watching Bring it On was cute. (Now immense respect for cheerleaders. Karen, we needed your commentary to match w/ Sabrina's!). Some Like it Hot was also amazingly hilarious. Can't wait for next Saturday's Buffy-ness.
Sunday was lounging around the house, finally getting the php to work, but then internet died. urg.
But anyway, week 2 of volunteering. Boring work so far, but at least now I have a rough grasp of the civil rights movement, and it'll look good on the resume. Hopefully, I'll be able to help with the liberation cirriculum, but whatever. At least there's worse ways to spend my time.
I also got up the nerve to sign up for some art classes at the Art center. ::apprehensive:: I dunno, it's $65 for 5 classes, so a bit on the eh side, but I figure it's better than learning in UChicago. Painting and Watercolor. I need to learn the patience. Sometimes self-teaching works, for example, when dabbling with php. But I think w/ doodling, I'm more like paying money for the environment that would encourage me to better myself. At least so that I know how to approach these things. ::pokes::
Now that it's harder to be online, my internet priorities are suddenly much clearer: 1) webpage, 2) email, 3) LJ. No time/patience for online comics, etc. Those will have to wait for the DSL in the apt. Oh crap, have to look up that Martin Luther King thing. oh, here. http://web66.coled.umn.edu/new/MLK/MLK.html

July 3 Fireworks at Stanford. I will probably be on the Oval staking out a spot for my family and whomever they're inviting (currently: Mr.Stanford-Math Genius-Tokien/Poetry aficionado's family, and son of Chinese school teacher), so if anyone is going into the amphitheatre for the concert or bumming the fireworks show like us, feel free to stop by! The concert is at 7:30, the fireworks should be around 10pm.
And though I'm no gamer, I voted for Link today. Mm.... taste the Link-pimpiness. http://www.gamefaqs.com/ Though I'm sure people like Jeanne, etc, might appreciate the multitude of FF chars that are also in competition. So yeah... more pimpage. I guess I'll stop by whenever I remember. Tomorrow: Pikachu vs. Fox McCloud. And then it's Tidus vs. Ganondorf. ... Yuuna vs. Knuckles? XD.
(Link kicked Mario's ass last year, which amuses me greatly.)
