Wanted to post earlier, but LJ troubles blocked me.
Aragorn's horse sez: I'm cosplaying Arwen! Can you tell?
Sushu: Shut up, horse. And you, too, voice in my head!
Voice: Saaaruman....
Hee, watched Run Lola Run yesterday. Pretty awesome movie. And in the end, you're not even sure if she's happy or not. I'm sure most of you have seen it, so no real need to add my comments/observations. Timing is everything. Being early obviously doesn't help.
Tonight, went and watched One Hour Photo. Good movie. Not perfect, but very good. First of all, cinematography, with the constant switching between warms and colds. And Robin Williams... that wasn't Robin Williams, it was someone else altogether. None of his normal goofy-warm-happy things. This is one depressed, sad, obsessive, kind, perfectionist man. Awesome. Much much better than Insomnia. His actions are disturbing, but understandable, and the feeling towards him at the end is one of sympathy, even a measure of empathy. At the end, it's about family, and how we all desire/thirst for something better. Sy (Robin Williams, the obsessive photo developer) merely takes to extreme what we all have in our hearts. The endless pursuit for perfection and idiosyncratic beauty. The vain desire for a perfect family. After all, we can only see the happiness and perfection in others' lives... Sometimes I think the whole thing is a little too sumptuous, too overdone (so that by the end, with the Sy-angst that partly explains his obsession, it was too much. fit too well), and the dream sequence is brilliant but v.v. freaky. Sometimes I almost think the cinematic focus on each individual scene detracts from the overall themes and flow.
What was cool, also was that I watched it with Joanne, Ashlee, and another Shorelander, and everyone had good observations of the movie afterwards. (as compared to some of my other watch-with-someone-else experiences, where they had nothing to say except "it was good!")
Why am I so tired? it's been 2 hours since the movie, and I didn't really do all that much today (besides falling down 3 times in 30 minutes while attempting to ice skate...). Maybe not tired. Just tired of studying, but knowing that I still have to study if I want to "earn" my fun time.
Oh, money tally:
$22 - movie quarter pass
$5 - 2 books, bought from the Fencing club fundraiser
$3 - rental skates (outdoor rink: free!)
$2 - hot chocolate after skating. (I feel gypped.)
Resident Masters planning to watch Julius Caesar at Shakespeare theatre. $20. Signups not out yet, but guess who's signing up? ::grin::
