12/22-12/26

laaadela....

haven't been online for a while.... well, actually, haven't written in LJ for a while. So, what has happened since leaving to watch LotR the second time? Will be writing in Bridget Jone's Diary/VSD style to conserve time.

Short Version: (click to get long version)

12/22: LotR, noodles, gumi-craziness

Yay! LotR! again! Finally understood the logistics of Battle of Helm's Deep. V. cool. Have decided that movie Ents are well-done effects-wise, but too wimpy. However, that can be pardoned, as do not have time to develop Ent character. Still maintain that Arwen needs to leave faster. Have also determined that source of Frodo-angst is from happy-weed withdrawl upon leaving Shire. They're only happy when they're smoking. Bad message to kids. Elijah Wood might as well don permanently-depressed-Frodo-angst mask. No different expression!

Finally ate Noodles after getting lost in movie theater parking lot (thanks to my ever-perfect sense of direction. So got on and went to Castro to stalk around some more, until everyone got hungry enough to follow nose.

Secret Santa! Was boring until arrival of Sabrina and Karen, upon which all crowded into Nicole's room for sharing of college experience. Finally stopped long enough to give prezzies. I got chopsticks and chopstick holder and cat-in-potsticker from Jeanne! yay! Talked of movies and random other gumi-craziness. Thought cunt was Kant. haha. Finally realized it was 2 and a healthy time to head home. Jess and Nicole, the early sleepers, were already half-dead with fatigue, but y'know, just can't keep Ewan McGregor from Ian, or Karen/Sabrina from JRM. (6 deg. separation)

12/23:shopping for x-mas presents, and more gumi-craziness (Titus & Priscilla, Queen of Desert)

Dad dropped me off at Midtown Longs Drugs, so did a little x-mas shopping for parents, and then retrieved bike from Nicole's house.

Then congregated at Catherine's house (big! pretty!) for movie night of Titus (beautiful beautiful visuals. Bloody, but still tastefully done. Very nice integration of modern and roman costumes/setting. V. theatrical), and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (more serious than I expected, Australian, and will never look upon Hugo Weaving without mental image of him in drag. He actually looks rather cute as drag queen. As does Guy Pearce.

Was driven home by nicole and talked another hour in parking lot about GW schtuff. crazy future politics.

12/24: Muir, annual video game experience

woke up at 7am to breakfast and go to Muir Woods with the Wan/Zhou family. Walked around tall redwoods with weird-math-poet-genius who kept asking math questions without giving answer. For example: "you are with 99 other prisoners in room. in 5 minutes, will be taken to solitary confinement. Warden will then randomly choose ppl to torture room. There is unconnected light switch in room. If can tell Warden when all 100 ppl have been tortured at least once, will be set free. how?"
Got back at Noon

4:30-11:00: annual x-mas party where I get my contact with video games by watching the boys play them. This time it was MattHoffman's BMX2 (Kinda like Tony Hawk, but w/ bike. yah), and some GT, and this weird game where you steal cars and shoot at police. something island. Got 4 prezzies! wow! Saved them for X-mas

12/25: presents! webstuff, slacking off

Presents!
I gave:
Mommy:
  • Rubber Spatula! we now have a rubber spatula in the house. Rejoice!
  • Dove Promises. Mom likes quotes and chocolate.
  • Anti-static spray. Mom also has lots of sweaters and staticky things.
    Daddy:
  • Earplugs! Silly daddy refuses to protect his ears while using power tools. Now he has no more excuse!
  • Bath thingy. washcloths are, like, *so* last decade. sheesh.
    Brother:
  • HP paperback set!

    I got:
from Mommy: necklaces. so that I can be more girly. Or at least I have some choices when I feel like dressing up.
from Daddy: some Office Depot executive folder type thing
from brother: hand-made clay figurine of A-fan-ti. cute!
    from others:
    - world history dictionary-type thing
    - secret history of romanovs or something
    - small tool pack!
    - picture frame

Then had to think about Chinese School website stuff. Decided to switch to php include tags instead of javascript. hopefully better. Wish I knew more about coding. Of course, you can't really tell the difference between the new version and the old version.

12/26: Contribute suckiness, LotR, non-shopping with dad

Mom woke me up saying that they're going shopping for new comp, and that she encountered some problems w/ Contribute. (this needs some back story. Basically, am giving webpage maintainence to dad, b/c obviously Chicago a little far, and they don't want to have to go through me. Therefore, first want webpage more stable and happy, and then have d/l-ed Macromedia Contribute for page updating)
So struggled w/ Contribute for almost 3 hours on stuff that could have taken care of in half hour. bah. Anyway, things are looking up. Have partway convinced parents that Contribute too much hassle, might as well learn some rudimentary html.

Parents came home! w/ $300 Linux comp and LotR1 Extended! Heard about big sale at Fry's so prepared for pilgrimage to Mecca of Technology. (Parents promised up to $50 for b-day present, so wanted to see if can get any good deals in after x-mas sale. Was contemplating Canon scanner or Hyperpen 8000) Anyway, dad drove me over, and as usual, became v. nervous w/ dad b/c of his disapproving glances and "so you still want to draw, do you?" in that "don't even try b/c it's not worth it" tone of voice. Why does dad always manage to quash carefully nourished pleasures? I mean, logically, pragmatically, he's right.... do not have enough talent/drive to succeed as artist, and in fact do not wish to be artist. Only want to indulge self occasionally. But academics are more important, and artish doodlings does make me stray from that. Bah. And now that I think about it, a $70 scanner or graphics tablet is really not worth the insignificant amount of time will be spending on it. So might as well not try anything and just stay in room next quarter. Meh, hate feeling like this. This is one of those moments where wish at college with own happy bubble of delusion, where can dream about graphics tablet that would never get and never use if gotten.

Sometimes would say to self, "Sushu! should grow up! stop dallying on silly things that have no benefit to future!" Hah, but I'm a lazy flop.

    More problems with website! great.

(later) waaa, got back from watching Chinese historic soap opera. soo sad, the sweet guy died. consumption+overwork. ::sniff:: and the emperor's about to die, too. He's working himself to death, getting 3 hours of sleep per night... and everyone hates him for trying to revolutionalize the government structure and taxation system. ::sniff::

it'd better post now. servers were down at around... 8? ::shrug:: time for bed!
