wheee! online! ::does some commenting on LJ::

So... watched Boys Don't Cry (depressing movie. With first half kinda slow, but then very quick and depressing ending.) and Kissing Jessica Stein (fast-paced, smart and funny dialogue. Well cut and well paced.) with Jess and Nicole. Was planning to watch Titus, but alas had to leave early to care for brother.

brother is cute. What's weird is that his writing is "show", but he can't "tell". In other words, the little 10-yr-old writes like a 13-yr-old fanficker. (Yes, fanficker is now a word. Am following the great tradition of making all parts of speech interchangeable.)

Assignment: write holiday story picture book for second grade buddy
(the line breaks are new pages)

Espalot was sitting on a slab of ston, watching the snow flutter down. His thoughts carried him to a distant land an ocean and a half away, to the U.S.A. He had been able to walk to the celebrations taking place on Chinese New Year. But now, everyting was different.
He needed a horse to get to the nearest village. But how could he get a horse or spare the time? A blustery wind snapped him out of his trance.
Espalot strolled home. As the snow got steadily thicker, the wind howled houder, stinging his face. This was turning into a storm. The wind was whipping at his face.
He decided to ask his father for a horse. His father had agreed once before, when Espalot needed to go to the village to buy paper.
His father's reply to Espalot's request was, "I guess I could lend my horse to you. It's winder now, so I don't need my horse now." Espalot's heart jumped as he led the magnificent horse from the stables.
Espalot's mother had died years ago in the frosty, cold harshness of Mongolia, where they were now.
He clutched a basket of gold dates from the garden, then galloped off on the road.
His horse's hooves pounded the icy road rythmically as the emerald trees streaked by, accompanied by the sound of ice breaking under hoof. As he drew closer to the village, faint snatches of song reached his ears. A plan formed in his mind.
Espalot stared in awe at the lanterns, flittering here and there, now raised, now lowered in the village. The smell of steaming dim sum was overpowering. But when Espalot moved towards other people, they moved away in disgust.
"Yah, yah! Poor boy!" the children chanted. Suddenly, he was being mocked from all directions -- from upstais windows, doorsteps, fomr the crowds milling about him, as more and more people took up the chant.
Tears started to well in Espalot's eyes. How could he get presents for his father if people didn't like him? Now, he put his plan into action. The dates swung up has he grasped the handle of the basket and dismounted.
"Gold dates! Beautiful gold dates! Sweeter than sugar! juicier than a plum! Only 7 yen a kilo! Come buy them!" Espalot yelled himself hoarse. People started coming. His plan had worked! People who once mocked him were thanking him again and again for the wonderful dates In a matter of minutes, his dates vanished and in their place was a basketful of money.
The snow had stopped. Espalot, now with new clothes on, a set of new clothes for his father, and fire crackers by the dozens strapped to the horse, galloped home cheerfully.
The starless night contrasted greatly with the joy of Espalot's father as he received the presents from Espalot.
When his father perished, Espalot stopped selling dates.

Hee. Pretty good, I think. Any spelling mistakes are mine (from typing it in). See? he can do the description thing just fine. I particularly like his bouncing dates. And he does have a story, and even a back story. Ah, my little bro is growing up.

::sigh:: You know you're weird when you're contemplating fanfiction for a Chinese historic drama. All the intrigue and backstabbing, and all the poor underlings who suffer in its wake. Why does everyone want to be emperor, anyway?

update: I've just remembered why I came online in the first place (no, not to download mr_pata's remastered song, Sushu), and so checked my grades. All I know is A in calc and A in Chinese. duh. No info yet on hum and soc. bah.
