bible - greek for collection of books

At the risk of sounding heathen (oh wait, I am heathen), is there any better version of the Bible besides the King James? There so many thous and thees and it refuses to be straightforward with anything!

Try the Jerusalem (or by now, as I use my mom's bible from the early 70s, the New Jerusalem) version... it was newly translated in the 60s from all the available orginal sources, and is basically written in plain English. It has very few "thees" and "thous", and is remarkably readable. (I've read Genesis and part of Exodus in it).
