Regarding the Sketchy Email

I'm not saying that Teaching for America is sketchy. I think it's sketchy in that I'm not certain of his intentions. If he wants to recruit me, why doesn't he just say that, instead of doing this "having coffee and talking about your experience and your future plans" thing.

As in, I'm vaguely interested, and want to find out more, but if I do arrange this sit-down, what does that mean? Like, what level of interest/dedication does it imply if I go to this? Does it mean "hey, Teach for America sounds interesting, let's talk", or "OMG I'm THERE"?! I mean, I'd like it to be, like, my Plan C or Plan D or something, but...

"having coffee" is merely a euphamism for informal chat--nothing binding, just something to persuade you to apply to the program.

If I were you, I'd talk to the guy. It's a good program, you get good (or at least an interesting) teaching experience, and you're helping society blah blah blah.

I think this is a sort of soft-sell/informational interview. What's being proposed is casual enough that you can very much me "tell me more about it/let's talk". You're definetely not committed.
